Day 2 April 30, 2010 West Palm Beach, FL to Greenport, NY

Posted by admin on Friday Apr 30, 2010 Under All

April 30, 2010
Day 2
1200 Pos. 31° 33.5′ N, 078° 43.2′ W
155 NM Run since 1200 April 29.
Barometer at 1020Mb and steady
Breeze at Force 3, E
Seas: 2′ swell out of the SE.
Sailing on a Starboard tack under Main, Fore, Fore Top, Staysail, Jib, Starboard Course and Stuns’l.

04/30/10 – Day 2

Engine off at 1300, set more sail (Course and Stuns’l) and are making 4.5 to 5.5 kts over the ground with about 8-10kts of wind. Gulf Stream still giving us a hand in going North. High Pressure still dominates with the wind building in the evening. Giving us a boost in boat speed to 7 – 8kts. High pressure will stay with us for a few days so should have good winds starting to go Westerly. Crew is in good spirits and all the watches are doing a good job keeping the boat on track. I’d like to say hi to my buddy Kaleb a Tall Ship Captain in the making! Until tomorrow – Capt. Bob

April 29. 2010 Day 1 West Palm Beach, FL to Greenport, NY

Posted by admin on Friday Apr 30, 2010 Under All

April 29, 2010
1200 Pos. 29° 14.92′ N, 079° 49.98′ W
150 NM Run since 1542 April 28.
Barometer at 1020Mb and rising
Breeze at Force 2, E
Seas: 2 – 3′ swell out of the N.
Motor Sailing on a Starboard tack under Main, Fore, and Staysail

04/29/10 – Day 1

Broke mooring at Peanut Island at 1455 04/28/10. Conducted safety drills and cleared the Lake Worth Inlet at 1542. Winds were light and out of the Northeast as we started. Seas were lumpy 6 – 8ft, NE swell, left over from a big storm in the N Atlantic. Worked our way East until we were about 15 nmi off shore then turned North. Seas moderated and were relatively flat by the time the sun came up. Making over 8 kts under easy power getting about a 3.5 kt boost from the Gulf Stream. High Pressure developing over the area so the winds were light for the early part of the day. Winds shifting to the East and starting to build. We won’t be hearing the engine for much longer. Until tomorrow – Capt. Bob
