Sail Training Programs
|
When Lynx schedules trips from CA to Hawaii, five students (15 to 18 years old) are chosen each June.
to sail aboard Lynx.
He/she makes a 16-18 day passage of adventure from the
West Coast to the Hawaiian Islands. An optional five-day tour,
exploring the historical sites and
and natural wonders on the Island of Hawaii can be arranged after making landfall.
Lynx's young crew members discover
first-hand a rich mix of cultures, as well as natural and man-made wonders. Together, as they
learn to sail their ship, through the Pacific trade winds, toward their final destination, they harvest lessons learned by all seafarers who
set out upon the ocean with enquiring minds and willing hearts: a sense of nature's balance and wonder; a developing commitment to their small community
of co-adventurers; and a practical understanding of the ethic represented by the ship's motto, "Be excellent to each other and to your ship." |
A Cruize of Opportunity to Hawaii, Summer 2007
was held June 18 to July 3. Click here for 2007 flyer.
During 2008, Lynx participated in the 2008 ASTA Pacific Challenge
and won awards for Sail Training and the Perry
Bowl Award.

The Catalina Experience
This five-day sailing and exploration adventure to beautiful Catalina Island is offered to thirty students and their
teachers and/or chaperones. This unforgettable adventure is a mix of sailing and shoreside
activities. Meals and accommodations for the group will be ashore at a camp.
A shorter two-day Catalina sailing program is also available. The group will spend
their days sailing to and from the Island, spending one night ashore at a camp.
A hearty lunch is served on board both days, but one dinner and breakfast will
be eaten ashore at a camp.
A 2007 two-day Scout Trip:
Weekend trip on the Lynx
I am the Scoutmaster for Troop 448 Covina, Ca. Troop 448 went on the Lynx
February 10-11, 2007. What a fantastic trip. It was fun, exciting, challenging,
educational, a team building lesson, and more. All of the crew (Captain Chris, Katie,
both Aarons, Crunch, Sam, Jim and the others whose names I don't remember) were
very friendly, helpful and good to the Boy Scouts and parents.
I will be recommending that other scout troops in our area take advantage of the
wonderful opportunity the Lynx has to offer. I'm looking forward to the next time our troop takes a trip on the Lynx.
Thank you to the Lynx and her crew. Brian M. May
